Spotting Between Periods

Now and through out history many women have experienced spotting between periods at some point in their life. And there are a lot of factors that should be considered when faced with this problem.

It is true that most of the women do not have a 28-day menstrual cycle and mid-cycle bleeding is a common phenomenon experienced by most of the womenfolk at some point of time in their life. If you face spotting between periods then it becomes essential that you see your doctor as soon as possible as in this way the cause can be found out and treatment can be started immediately.

1) Ovulation: The release of the egg from the ovary can also result in mid-cycle bleeding as the ovary contains tiny follicles which comprises of the egg and at the time of ovulation when the follicle bursts, bleeding might take place which appears as a bloody vaginal discharge. This bleeding is usually accompanied by one-sided sharp pain and cramping and is usually part of a healthy menstrual cycle.

2) Contraception: It is also common that contraceptives might cause spotting between periods which are the intrauterine devices like Mirena and Paragard. Birth control pills can also cause such effects if the person misses a pill.

3) Diseases and conditions: Sometimes, bleeding between periods can also be an indication of a sexually transmitted disease such as Chlamydia and gonorrhea which results in abnormal vaginal bleeding as the reproductive organs have been infected. The presence of an ovarian cyst or the condition of polycystic ovary syndrome can also result in bleeding in between the periods and uterine fibroids are also known to cause similar effects.

4) Cancer: Sudden vaginal bleeding usually in between your periods can also be a sign of cancer in the reproductive system namely in the vagina, cervix, uterus or ovaries. Cases of uterine cancer and cervical cancer are certainly known to cause bloody discharge.

5) Menopause: Impending menopause may also cause this effect. Irregular menstrual cycle occurs as the body's hormone levels drop and as the ovaries will stop their normal function, menstrual bleeding will also stop eventually. However, if a woman experiences vaginal bleeding after menopause, then it is a sign of great concern and should not be ignored.
